Fire Prevention Bureau/Community Outreach
Fire Prevention

Madison Fire & Rescue's Fire Prevention Bureau understands that the most effective way to prevent loss of life and property is through fire prevention.  These dedicated professionals are committed to providing the highest level of fire prevention through on-site inspections and code enforcement.  Through their partnering efforts with local businesses and citizens, they are able to provide the most updated information and assist them in implementing the most effective fire safety plan.

Engineering and Enforcement

The Fire Prevention Bureau, working in conjunction with other city departments, conducts plan reviews of proposed construction, remodels, and development projects in the city.  It doesn't end there.  Once construction begins, field inspections ensure that construction practices comply with all local, state, and recognized fire codes in order to maximize the safety of our citizens and visitors.

Community Outreach

Guided tours of Madison Fire’s stations are provided free of charge as part of our Community Outreach program.  However, when scheduling your tour, please consider the following tips:

1.)    Tours must be scheduled at least one week in advance.

2.)    Tours are available Monday through Saturday.

3.)    Each tour is approximately 30 minutes long.

4.)    All tour participants should be at least 4 years of age.  A very modified tour is available   for younger age children and lasts approximately 15 minutes.

5.)    Each tour is limited to 25 and we require at least one adult for every 5 children

6.)    Birthday parties are welcome to tour the station as part of their event, however, we ask that you do not hold party activities such as cake, ice cream, and/or giving gifts at the station.

7.)    Please remember that all stations are working fire stations and the crews are subject to call.  Should the crew be pulled away during your visit, we will gladly reschedule your visit for another time.

Individuals or small groups (4 people or less) are invited to stop by your local station at any time.  If the crew is not busy they will be glad to show you around the station.  Stations are open for small groups each day from 9:00AM to 5:00PM and no reservation is required.

To schedule a tour for your group, please contact Jenna Tucker at (256) 772-3326 or by email at

Madison Fire & Rescue is a recognized CPR instruction facility through American Safety and Health Institute.  We offer this life saving training to the public on the second Saturday of each month starting at 9:00AM.  In this class, you will learn to perform CPR on an infant, child, and adult along with the proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).  Upon completion of the class, you will receive a certification that is good for two years and access to a website that will provide additional information and refresher type content.  All of this for just $15!

We realize that in some instances making the Saturday classes is difficult.  As a result, we make house calls!  We will be glad to come to your business, organization, or home and teach the class.  So what’s the catch?  We require that you have a minimum roster of 8 people.  That’s it…so get co-workers, friends, or family together and let’s save some lives!

To schedule a class or to participate in our Saturday offering call 256-772-3326.
