[ARCHIVED] Madison Police Department Initiates Citizen Police Academy

Have you ever wanted to know what it takes to be a police officer or what exactly community oriented policing is all about? The Madison Police Department is instituting a new program to help answer those questions and provide so much more. The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to make citizens of Madison more informed individuals by allowing police officers and residents to communicate in an open environment. The new program will begin on January 12, 2010 and run through February 9, 2010. The academy will take place on Tuesday nights from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at City Hall in the City council Chambers. There is no charge to participate, but the academy will be limited to the first 25 applicants.

Each night will have a different speaker and different topic. Topics being covered will be 911 Communications, Patrol, Animal Control, Traffic Safety, Special Response Team, Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Investigations, School Resource Officers, and Community Development. The Community Development component will address activities such as Community Watch, the Police Foundation, and Rape Aggression Defense classes.

To register or if you would like more information, visit http://www.madisonal.gov/CitizenPoliceAcademy or contact Officer Jonathan Muecke at (256) 772-2569.
