Responsibilities
The Investigation Division's Crime Scene Unit consists of specially trained detectives whose primary function is to identify, collect, preserve, and process evidence related to major criminal incidents.
The Crime Scene Unit prepares evidence for the Crime Lab and presents evidence in court related to significant criminal events. The Crime Scene Unit also manages the department's evidence and property storage facility.
Firearm Release Request
A firearm release request form is required to be filled out before a request can be processed. This form can be located on our website or at 100 Hughes Road at the Police Department Records front window from 8am- 5pm. You will need to a bring a valid driver’s license. There is no fee for this form.
It is our policy to run a criminal history to verify the requestor has no pending criminal charges or reasons they cannot own a firearm. The firearm will only be released to the owner. To expedite the process, bring a copy of your purchase receipt or proof of ownership.
One of the crime scene detectives will contact you to schedule an appointment to come to the police department to retrieve your property. Please allow up to two weeks for a response time.
