How to Obtain a Warrant

Warrant Procedure
If the incident occurred in the City limits of Madison and the offender is over 18 years of age, you must file an incident offense report with the Madison Police Department and then contact the Clerk's Office at (256) 772-5625.

After conducting a hearing while under oath, the magistrate will determine if there is a probable cause to issue an arrest warrant. Filing a police report does not ensure a warrant will be issued.

Once the warrant is issued, all parties must appear in court. For incidents that involve a juvenile or are of a felony nature, the Madison Police Department will explain the correct procedure to follow.
