Benefits (& Retirement) and Leave
Health and Dental Insurance
Medical, Dental and Rx prescription coverage is provided through LGHIP (Local Government Health Insurance Plan), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and OptumRx.
Life Insurance
Life insurance coverage is provided through Hartford Life. The City provides Group Term Life Insurance for all regular, full-time employees.
Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA)
All full-time and part-time employees who work a minimum of 20 hours per week participate in RSA. Seven and a half percent (7.5%) of earned compensation is the contribution rate for regular full-time and part-time employees hired on or after January 1, 2013. Eight and a half percent (8.5%) of earned compensation is the contribution rate for full-time certified firefighters and law enforcement officers hired on or after January 1, 2013. Employees enrolled in the Retirement Systems of Alabama prior to 2013 may contribute 5% to 6%, depending on position and eligibility.

Eligible regular full-time employees will be credited with vacation each pay period, as it is earned. An employee can use annual leave after being employed for a period of six months without a break in service.
Sick Leave
Regular full-time employees earn sick leave credit at the rate of 3.7 hours per pay period for a total of 96.2 hours of eligible sick leave per year. Fire Department Shift employees earn sick leave credit at the rate of 5.2 hours per pay period for a total of 135.2 hours of eligible sick leave per year. Employees may accumulate and carry forward an unlimited amount of sick leave credit.
Holidays
The City of Madison has 12 paid holidays.
Personal Leave
Regular full-time employees receive eight hours of personal leave per fiscal year, after three months of employment.
Recreation Center
Full-time regular employees and their dependents may access all of the City's recreational facilities to Dublin Park at no charge.
Tuition Reimbursement
A Tuition Reimbursement Program is available to eligible full-time employees, dependent on specific requirements and available budget.
Differential Pay
A paramedic incentive differential maybe paid to specific Fire Department personnel who meet certain credentials. Police differential pay maybe paid to non-exempt employees for (1) working 12-hour night shift; or (2) performing specialized unit assignments.
