Budgeting

Responsibilities

The Budgeting Division is responsible for:

  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget in accordance with Section 11-43-57, Code of Alabama, in coordination with the Mayor's Office
  • Compiling the preliminary budget from appropriation requests submitted by individual departments and estimated revenues submitted by the Revenue Department
  • Assisting the Mayor in holding meetings with each department to review appropriation requests and incorporating any changes into the budget document
  • Assisting Finance Committee members of the Council in holding public hearings on the budget (once the budget is submitted by the Mayor) and incorporating any changes from the public hearings into the budget document
  • Implementing the budget and monitoring through the year
