Madison City Sustainability Committee
The City of Madison is actively supporting Mayor Paul Finley’s efforts to promote a community-wide initiative that further establishes the community as a leader in living and working in an environmentally friendly, safe, and sustainable manner. Our Purpose
Increased environmental awareness and social responsibility is being promoted and woven into our social fabric. Government is a consumer of the environment as well as a service provider to the needs of its citizens. As a consumer, the City should be environmentally conscious of the way we operate. As a service provider, the City should be implementers of programs that accomplish the citizen’s goals and desires to be environmentally responsible. This committee will advise the City on opportunities to consume and provide services more responsibly.
Our Objectives
- Represent the City within the community to increase awareness of sustainability initiatives through participation in civic, neighborhood and professional group activities
- Develop new Better Management Practices (BMP's) that enhance the City's overall impact on the environment
- Coordinate development and implementation of written sustainability protocols as they relate to the City of Madison
- Foster collaborative educational opportunities for City staff, residents, and businesses
- Provide research and support to City Departments, Committees, Boards and Council on issues related to sustainability
- Organize and implement community sustainability events that make a direct and immediate impact on our community
