Special Response Team (SRT)

Responsibilities 

The SRT is tasked to perform operations that pose a higher than normal risk to the lives of citizens and police officer. These operations include:
  • Hostage rescue
  • Barricaded suspect resolution
  • High-risk warrant service
  • VIP protection
  • Directed patrol operations
  • Any other operation that requires the use of a cohesive law enforcement unit
Joining the Team

Police officers and firefighters that want to serve on the SRT must:
  • Pass a rigorous physical fitness test
  • Achieve a 90% firearms qualification score
  • Pass a psychological examination that is specifically designed to assess tactical unit operators

Once a candidate is assessed and deemed qualified, he/she must attend regularly scheduled SRT training. Here the officers and firefighters are all trained in:
  • Operational doctrine
  • Advanced marksmanship
  • Breaching and tactical entry
  • The use of chemical and specialty impact munitions
  • Chemical endurance
  • Close quarter defensive tactics
  • Tactical rappelling
