Madison Annexation Procedure
- Property must be contiquous with existing city limits.
- Submit copy of deed and map showing contiquity with city
to the City Attorney's office. Provide name, phone number
and property address
- City Attorney's office will prepare a petition for property
owner's signature and will call when ready.
- City Attorney's office will then prepare paperwork for
the utility companies, Water Board, Planning Commission,
School Board and the Tax Assessor's office for recommendations
and approvals.
- Once all the responses are received by the City Attorney's
office, an Ordinance and packet of the paperwork will be
prepared for the City Council.
- The annexation will be placed on the next agenda for a
1st reading (review).
- Two weeks later, the annexation will again be placed on
the agenda for final approval/denial.
- If approved, the City Clerk's office will send the annexation
to the county courthouse for recording to their office as
quickly as possible.
- The City Clerk's office will then forward that questionnaire
to the City Attorney's office for filing with the Justice
Department.
- The entire annexation process takes approximately eight
(8) weeks.
