Steve Smith was born and raised in Nashville, TN and is a 1985 graduate of DuPont High School. He received a scholarship from Trevecca Nazarene University to play baseball. He graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor degree in both Business Administration and Computer Information System.
After graduating, he went to work for a top transportation company and was promoted and transferred to Huntsville in 1991. In 1992, he married Mickie Beecham and they moved to Madison in 1994. “We were looking for a place to raise our family and thru lots of prayer, we felt led to Madison. Looking back, the City, our friends, and the relationships we’ve enjoyed over the years, have definitely been an answer to prayer.”
Steve and Mickie have 2 sons. Spencer, is a senior at Bob Jones High School and Chandler, is a sophomore at James Clemens High School.
Steve has worked in transportation and logistics for over 20 years. He currently is owner of a Transportation Brokerage/Logistics company and services customers all over the United States and Canada.
Although Steve has enjoyed a successful business career so far, his main passion has been his family and being active within the community. Over the years, he has coached numerous recreational teams within the local basketball, baseball, football, soccer leagues and serving in different capacities on the boards to govern the leagues. He’s a 3 term member of the Madison Recreational Advisory Board. He’s been involved with the school’s PTA Clubs and active in various Booster Clubs. He’s also a previous Sunday School teacher and currently a Greeter/Usher at Asbury Methodist Church. Steve is currently an umpire at Palmer Park and member of an Asbury Men’s basketball team.
Steve was elected to the Madison City Council in 2012. He currently serves on the Finance Subcommittee, Recreation Advisory Board, and Greenway and Trails Board and is the Council representative to the Fire Department and Recreation Department.
