A Little About Councilman Larry Vannoy

Larry Vannoy was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma to a military
family and served on active duty himself for nine years,
living in eleven states, Japan and Germany. He met his
high school sweetheart and wife of 29 years, Lisa, at Shaw
Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina. The couple has
three grown children: Jessica, a school teacher in Franklin,
TN; Ashley, who attends Calhoun Community College, and
Adam, an Air Force ROTC engineering student at the University
of Tennessee in Knoxville. All three are graduates of Bob
Jones High School.
Councilman Vannoy is also a Colonel in the Air Force, having
served 27 years on active duty and in the Reserves where
he serves as the State of Alabama Air Force Emergency Preparedness
Liaison Officer for Homeland Land Security. He was mobilized
for 9 months in support of "Operation Enduring Freedom".
Larry holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering
from the University of South Carolina and a Master's Degree
in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute
of Technology in Dayton, Ohio. He is currently a Senior
Systems Engineer at Davidson Technologies in Huntsville.
The Vannoy family became Madison residents in 1986. Vannoy
has been an active community volunteer, working with the
Madison Street Festival for 17 years, serving as president
of the committee four times. He also serves as the city
liaison to the annual Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle
Ride and is the vice president of the Alabama Trail of
Tears Association. He has been actively involved in Madison
sports and recreation programs since moving here. He has
served as a coach of girl's softball, boy's baseball, soccer,
and as a Cub Scout Den Leader and Boy Scout Assistant Scout
Master. He has held the positions of Jaycee President and
District Director, and has been a member of the Board of
Directors of the Madison Optimist Club. He is also a member
of Madison American Legion Post 229.
Elected to the Madison City Council in 2000, he is/has
served on the City Finance Committee, Human Resources Committee,
Water and Wastewater Board Member, and liaison to the Recreation
Advisory Board, Madison Chamber of Commerce and Madison
Senior Center. |
