A Little About Councilman Tim Holcombe

Tim Holcombe is a native of Birmingham, AL., where he attended Robinson Grammar School and Banks High School. His first job was delivering newspapers at age 12, and went on to work in area grocery stores throughout high school. He attended the University of Montevallo, while also working part time in grocery stores and doing construction work during summer recess. At Montevallo, he was actively involved in College Night (the longest continual college tradition), and was also a founding brother of the Montevallo Chapter of the Delta Chi Fraternity, in which he held several offices. He has 3 sisters, all still living in Alabama, and all are or were employed in the public education field.
After college, he opened a high end audio store, which he ran successfully for 5 years. He found his career niche with the soft drink business in sales and marketing in 1977, joining the Dr Pepper Company. The soft drink industry, like many others, has seen much consolidation over the past 30 years, and Tim traveled throughout the southeast during this time representing brands such as 7 Up, A&W, RC, Sun Drop and Snapple until 2003. That year, a company reorganization offered an opportunity for relocation to northern Alabama from the Birmingham area and employment with the Sun Drop Bottling Company of Madison, which he accepted, and opened a new chapter in his life. Tim is the Marketing Manager for the SunDrop / 7 Up Bottling Company, who distribute beverage products throughout a 12 county area of northern Alabama area.
Tim is married to Sharon Lynch Holcombe, who also attended University of Montevallo. She taught in the Birmingham City and Shelby County School Systems. She is presently a teacher at Monrovia Middle School, and has 30 years teaching experience. They have 2 children, both attending college. His son, Daniel, is Vestavia High School graduate and is now majoring in business at Auburn University. Daniel is also in the Army Reserves and served a tour of duty in Iraq. Their daughter Rosalie, a Bob Jones graduate, attends the University of Montevallo where she is majoring in Art.
Upon moving to Madison, Tim quickly became interested in the local scene, since he no longer traveled extensively. He was elected President of the newly formed Walden Homeowners Association. He began attending City Council and Planning & Zoning Board meetings in 2005 and educating himself about the process. Seeing a need to unite other Homeowner Associations to share information and mentor, he founded the Madison Homeowners Association Network, which now comprises 46 area homeowner associations. Quarterly meetings for this organization are held and information shared regarding a variety of topics of interest to HOA’s and residents.
Tim is an avid scuba diver, certified as a PADI Dive Master, and also an avid motorcyclist, proudly riding with the Patriot Guard Riders. He has also worked with charity organizations including the March of Dimes, St. Jude’s, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and others. He is also on the Delta Chi Alumni Board of Trustees.
Tim was elected to represent District 1 in 2008, and his priorities include continued emphasis for our school system, business recruitment and development, continued infrastructure development, to include roads, bridges, bike lanes and sidewalks, and completion of the Bradford Creek Greenway. He encourages and invites input and participation from residents, and you may contact Tim at Tim.Holcombe@madisonal.gov, or call 256.325.5656.
