City of Madison Assisting Residents to Understand Changes
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the State of Alabama, Office Water Resources has issued a new county wide Preliminary Flood Insurance Study (FIS) along with the accompanying Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM). Approximately two hundred fourteen (214) City of Madison property owners will be impacted by the new study and maps.
The new preliminary study and maps are available for review at the Madison Municipal Complex, 100 Hughes Road, Madison, Alabama in the Engineering Department from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and the Planning Department from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Monday through Friday. The preliminary maps can be viewed at http://maps.madisonal.gov. The State of Alabama, Office of Water Resources website is beneficial to determine the flood designation status of a property also.
An open house has been scheduled specifically for City of Madison property owners to review the Preliminary Flood Study and Federal Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) on November 4, 2010 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the City of Huntsville Public Services Building, Urban Development Conference Room, 320 Fountain Circle, Huntsville Alabama. City of Madison Engineering and Planning Staff and FEMA representatives will be on hand to assist residents and answer questions.
The Preliminary Flood Insurance Study (FIS) and Federal Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) are subject to a ninety (90) day review and appeal/protest period, which will begin approximately one (1) month after these meetings.
